Poverty, malnutrition, violence, overpopulation and drug trafficking, are several problems affecting the world. These terms are heard every day in the news, but overall the main issues nowadays are “increase of oil prices” and “energy scarcity”. There are three facts in the world that in combination do not produce a good result…first; there is a limited quantity of natural resources in the world. Second; human being’s nature calls for a high-quality of life such as food, transportation, healthy, education, etc. Third; world overpopulation. The result; there are not enough natural resources per human being to have a good-quality life. New ways to produce energy which does not negatively affect the earth should be found. A solution in long term which ensures world sustainability is needed. Renewable energies could be the solution for these problems, if they are applied with the right technical and ethical way. Energy can be produced by means of anaerobic digestion which produces biogas, a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide, which can be transformed into electrical and thermal energy by means of an engine. Anaerobic digestion can be done from organic matter in absence of oxygen. Germany is the world leader in biogas technology in areas such as: design, building, operation and maintenance. Germany also has outstanding energy policies established. In 2007, Germany had around 3.711 biogas plants which generated approximately 1.300 MW of installed power. Nevertheless, the rest of the European countries are far away from these results, and have to put forth effort to increase the generation of renewable energy to achieve the European goals. Spain and Italy are countries with high energy potential for biogas. The aim of this thesis is to find out the country market feasibility from three main issues: technical framework (facilities and limitations), energy potential from biogas production of swine and dairy cattle manure and the economical point of view. One of the main products of the company AgroEnergien, is the SMD-Self Mixing Digester, a biogas facility which does not require mixers inside the digester. An efficient mixing is reached, by means of a gas valve, two communicating chambers and pressure generated by biogas production. The especial process in the SMD-Digester required animal manure, as main substrate. On other hand the company is planning to expand the operations out of Germany. Therefore, AgroEnergien is interested to find out the biogas potential in Spain and Italy, from swine and dairy cattle manure. MARKET STUDY FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS OF ANANAEROBIC DIGESTION PLANT FOR SWINE SECTOR IN ARAGÓN ABSTRACT: Aragón an important community of Spain, is the second largest swine producer with more than 4.5 million head in the last census (2005); being an important part on livestock economy. Manure produced from this industry has not been treated since decades, creating potential contaminant problems due to its high nitrogen content and pathogens. Spain policies are changing and requiring farmers to treat residues and are supporting renewable energy production from these residues. The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of an anaerobic digestion process, taking into account raw material, logistics, Spain policies, digester design, biogas production, cogeneration production and financial model.
